Heraklion, Crete
15 May — 27 June, 2021
May 2021 marked the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Crete and the Nazi Germany invasion of the island during World War II. The Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory of ICS-FORTH was invited to participate in the exhibition that was organized by the Municipality of Heraklion in collaboration with the Historical Museum of Crete at Saint Mark’s Basilica in the center of Heraklion.
HCI Lab developed and installed an Interactive Historical Map in the exhibition, which pointed out on a map the location of the island’s defensive forces, the points of attack by the Nazi forces and paths of retreat of Allied soldiers.
Furthermore, HCI Lab developed a 3D model of the exhibition, which allows users to tour the exhibition virtually. The virtual exhibition is available on the website heraklionartgallery.gr/en.
