Best City Awards 2018: Gold and Silver Awards for ICS-FORTH collaborations

The Municipality of Heraklion was presented with a Gold Award in the Best City Awards 2018, in Information and Communications Technologies, while the Municipality of Chania received a Silver Award for the installation of an interactive information kiosk. In both cases, the awards went to projects developed and installed in collaboration with the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH.

Demonstration of AmI technologies to the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania

The Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, Rolandas Kačinskas, visited the Foundation for Research & Technology Hellas (FORTH) on Tuesday, November 13th 2018. The Ambassador concluded his visit by attending a demonstration of Ambient Intelligence interactive system at the AmI Facility.

A delegation from the People’s Republic of China visits the AmI Facility

Vice Minister of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Li Meng headed a group of visitors to the Foundation for Research & Technology – Hellas, on Saturday May 19th, 2018. The Chinese delegation was received by members of the FORTH Board of Directors and were shown various research projects. The delegation paid a special visit to the AmI Facility, where they were given a demonstration of interactive systems for cultural heritage organizations.

 

6th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair

The Municipality of Heraklion invited the Institute of Computer Science – Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (ICS-FORTH) to  participate in the 6th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (CSITF 2018), the world’s largest technology exhibition with nearly 1.000 exhibitors from 40 countries and 6.000 technologies from all around the world, with Heraklion enjoying the distinction of being an “Honored City”.

Sponsorship in the “Christmas Castle 2017”

This holiday season, the Institute of Computer Science of Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (ICS-FORTH) participates as sponsor in the “Christmas Castle” celebrations, organized by the Municipality of Heraklion, and offers visitors a chance to travel in the magical world of Christmas through innovative interactive applications.

At the entrance of the “Christmas castle”, visitors are welcomed by a novel system that combines a mechanical speaking doll with videos of flight over the city of Heraklion, the sleigh of Santa Claus with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer ready to guide it. Rudolph invites children to become Santa Claus’ assistants and deliver presents to everyone in Heraklion, through a virtual interactive trip over the city center.

European Public Sector Awards 2017

The innovative services that were designed and developed by the HCI Laboratory of ICS-FORTH in order to facilitate digital service delivery for the Region of Crete, were nominated for the final jury decision of the European Public Sector Awards (EPSA 2017) set by the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA), in the “Regional” category.

EIPA is the leading centre of European learning and development for the public sector. It was created in 1981 on the occasion of the first European Council held in Maastricht, and is supported by the EU Member States and the European Commission.

“At sea 2017” Exhibition

The mobile electrical vehicle unit featuring three interactive systems designed and developed by ICS-FORTH, was the main attraction on display during the four-day “En plo (At sea)” exhibition, 15th to 19th of June 2017, at the entrance of the Venetian harbour. The event was an initiative of the association of inflatable dinghies and boats of Crete, under the auspices of the Port Authority of Heraklion.

Viannos Municipality officials visit the AmI Facility

The Μayor of Viannos Municipality Mr. Pavlos Baritakis and the President and members of the Directors’ Board of the Viannos Holocaust Museum, Aristomenis Syggelakis, Andreas Aggelakis and Emmanuil Karakonstandakis, visited the AmI Facility of ICS-FORTH.

Innovarch hosted at FORTH-ICS

Innovating Training Aims and Procedures for Public Archaeology (INNOVARCH) is a Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education action (Key Action: Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practice) in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme of the European Comission. INNOVARCH is an educational collaborative project aimed to design and assess experiences of theoretical and practical training for graduate and postgraduate students in the field of public archaeology, as well as to elaborate curriculum guidelines for introducing Public Archaeology in EHEA (Europan Higher Education Area) and training resources that are aimed to provide guidance for its gradual implementation into European higher education curricula.

Heraklion Archaeological Museum awarded an EMYA 2017 Special Commendation Prize by EMF

The Heraklion Archaeological Museum has been awarded a Special Commendation in the European Museum of the Year Award Scheme (EMYA) of the European Museum Forum (EMF), held in Zagreb, Croatia, on 3-6 May 2017. The EMF Awards go to European museums that demonstrate a high level of professionalism and excellence in the experiential presentation of their collections, exploiting the possibilities offered by modern technology, and to the museums that attract a broader audience through various inclusive actions promoting European ideals and the wider benefit to society.
