Intelligent Greenhouse

The Intelligent Greenhouse makes use of state-of-the-art technologies, so as to cover the entire spectrum of production and streamline the synergy and interaction among people and smart environments in the domain of Agri-food.

Two applications have been developed in the domain of Precision Agriculture, namely the Intelligent Greenhouse and the AmI Seedbed. Combined these applications, make use of state-of-the-art technologies such as Ambient Intelligence, so as to cover the entire spectrum of production and streamline the synergy and interaction among people and smart environments in the domain of Agri-food.

  • The AmI Seedbed precedes the Intelligent Greenhouse and comprises of a bench, a robotic arm and a network of sensors and microprocessors. The robotic system is able to plant vegetable seeds, precisely water each individual sprouted plant and measure its height (i.e. growth) from the very beginning until their transplantation in the greenhouse. The interaction between the user and the environment is accomplished via an Augmented Reality application, an application for mobile devices (e.g., smartphone) and various interactive components (e.g. tablets, LED lights) installed in the greenhouse.
  • The Intelligent Greenhouse is a small-scale experimental prototype that integrates various technologies to act as an intelligent cultivation space. In particular, an extensive network of sensors and actuators monitors the internal and external environmental conditions (e.g. soil temperature and moisture, air, solar radiation, weather conditions) along with specific growth parameters of vegetables (e.g. weight of growing produces) and permits the remote management. In parallel, sophisticated agronomic scenarios automatically adjust the internal environmental conditions to ensure optimal growth of each plant, while advanced mechanisms based on machine learning detect unwanted changes in the greenhouse’s microclimate and common problems (e.g. diseases, technical failures).
