An interactive exhibit that combines interaction with physical objects and digital information.
FinXR is an interactive system for the presentation of exhibits, combining interaction with physical objects and digital information. It consists of a vertically oriented touchscreen embedded in a bookshelf-like structure, which includes a dedicated base for the recognition of three-dimensional objects, as well as shelves for their storage. For each exhibit, there is a central physical object that serves as its physical representation. In addition, auxiliary physical objects are used, each corresponding to different types of information that can be presented (e.g., an object shaped like a camera for multimedia playback).
When the central object is placed in the appropriate position on the recognition base, the system is activated and the presentation of the exhibit begins. Subsequently, the user may place one of the auxiliary objects in the secondary position on the base in order to explore more detailed information on the screen, such as texts, images, and videos related to specific characteristics of the exhibit.
At the same time, the touchscreen functions as an alternative means of navigation, allowing users to explore additional details. Furthermore, the system is extended through the use of the user’s personal device, as specially marked areas on the objects can be scanned to provide access to related online content. Finally, through an Augmented Reality (AR) application, digital elements—such as information panels and animated graphics—are displayed around the central object, creating a unified mixed-reality experience that bridges the physical and digital worlds.
The FinXR system can be implemented across different application domains, such as the presentation of commercial products, museum exhibits, educational content, or scientific and technical applications, adapting each time to the needs of the specific context of use.
The first installation of the system was implemented at the CrediaBank New Experience Branch in Crete, with the aim of presenting banking products.
